Purpose

This SOP defines internal procedures for mixing agricultural chemicals prior to spray operations. This document contains proprietary mixing ratios and is for internal use only.

Required PPE

Before beginning any mixing operation, don the following PPE:

  • Chemical-resistant gloves (nitrile, minimum 8 mil)
  • Safety goggles or face shield
  • Chemical-resistant apron
  • Respirator (if required by SDS)
  • Closed-toe boots

Pre-Mix Checklist

  • Review Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for all chemicals
  • Verify correct chemical products
  • Check expiration dates
  • Inspect mixing equipment for damage
  • Ensure spill kit is accessible
  • Confirm ventilation is adequate

Standard Mix Ratios

Mixing Procedure

Step 1: Prepare Tank

  1. Rinse tank with clean water
  2. Fill tank to 50% capacity with water
  3. Start agitation system

Step 2: Add Chemicals

  1. Add chemicals in this order:

    • Water-soluble packets first
    • Dry flowables
    • Liquid flowables
    • Emulsifiable concentrates
    • Surfactants last
  2. Allow each product to fully disperse before adding next

Step 3: Final Fill

  1. Continue agitation
  2. Fill to final volume
  3. Verify agitation is mixing thoroughly
  4. Record batch number and time

Documentation

Record the following for each batch:

  • Date and time
  • Operator name
  • Products used (lot numbers)
  • Mix ratios
  • Total volume
  • Target application area
  • Weather conditions

Spill Response

Minor Spill (< 1 gallon)

  1. Don PPE
  2. Contain with absorbent
  3. Collect in hazmat container
  4. Clean area with water
  5. Document incident

Major Spill (> 1 gallon)

  1. Evacuate area
  2. Contact Operations Manager immediately
  3. Do not attempt cleanup without guidance
  4. Prevent spread to drains or waterways

Disposal

  • Triple-rinse containers before disposal
  • Rinsate goes into spray tank
  • Dispose containers per local regulations
  • Never pour chemicals down drains
