Purpose

This checklist ensures safe drone operations and regulatory compliance before every flight.

Pre-Flight Inspection

1. Weather Assessment

  • Check wind speed (max 15 mph for spraying operations)
  • Verify no precipitation expected during flight window
  • Confirm visibility > 3 statute miles
  • Review temperature (battery performance degrades below 40°F)

2. Equipment Inspection

Airframe

  • Inspect propellers for cracks, chips, or damage
  • Check motor mounts are secure
  • Verify landing gear is intact
  • Inspect spray nozzles (if applicable)

Batteries

  • Confirm battery charge level ≥ 90%
  • Check battery temperature is within operating range
  • Inspect battery housing for swelling or damage
  • Verify battery firmware is current

Remote Controller

  • Battery charged ≥ 80%
  • Antenna positioned correctly
  • Control sticks move freely
  • Display screen functional

3. Flight Area Survey

  • Identify obstacles (power lines, trees, structures)
  • Confirm no people in spray zone
  • Establish takeoff/landing zone
  • Note emergency landing areas

4. Regulatory Compliance

  • FAA Part 107 certificate on person
  • Aircraft registered and marked
  • Airspace authorization confirmed (if required)
  • Property owner permission obtained

Go/No-Go Decision

All items must be checked before flight. Any unchecked item = NO GO.
